CRUCIFIED BARBARA - Sweden's hot export!

Crucified Barbara

Sweden's hot export

Rock and Roll is beautiful! After many weeks on the road Crucified Barbara have finished their successful European club tour. (Interview with Mia Coldheart, by Dennis Rowehl)

Autona: How do you feel feel after six weeks on the road?

Mia: We just arrived to the club KB in Malmö, Sweden, the last gig on the tour and it feels a bit strange that it’s gonna end now, everybody is a bit low but anyway we’re looking forward tonights gig and the after show party. KB is one of Sweden’s best rock clubs for live music so it’s a great place to have the final at. Personally I feel mostly dirty, all my clothes are wet and stinky, and I got stuff all over the bus. It’s sad that the tour is ending, but I’m looking forward to come home and meet my family, and do some laundry…

Autona: Well, I saw your show in Cologne and I'm very impressed by your energy! Is it hard to take care of your voice especially at this winter times when 20% of the people around you have got a bad cold or something?

Mia: It’s not that hard really, just boring sometimes to be the serious one who goes to bed earliest after every gig. But I’m totally fine with this, ‘cause I don’t want to compromise with the stage performance and give people less than 100% on stage, for some stupid hangover. I don’t smoke, so I’m not out in the cold all the time, I mostly drink only water and party only when we don’t have gigs or when I know I still can perform well. Then I always warm up my voice before the gig, I have some great exercises. It took some years but I have found a way that works for me now to keep the voice in good shape. But of course when the cold finally hits you there’s not much to do. Mostly I get sick when I get home from touring, not as we’re out on the roads. Knock on wood….

Autona: How do you guys keep yourself in a good shape while touring? Do you have room for exercises or do you keep a special nutricious diet?

Mia: When we were young and innocent we just didn’t give a fuck about things like that but now we have to, so at least we try to take a walk now (laughing).

Autona: How was the feedback on "Till death do us party"? Did you sell many copies?

Mia: We had great response on the new album from everywhere, and especially from Germany. I don’t know any numbers but it’s selling well even though it’s a tough market now. The average response is that we’ve taken ourselves to the next level when it comes to sound, songs and playing, which is just what we wanted to achieve.

Autona: The dark side of touring is certainly the loading, especially after the show. What is gonna be the next step in the career of Crucified Barbara that you'll have your own road crew that you don't have to do anything except playing live?

Mia: I don’t see it as a dark side to carry your own stuff, it’s good to use the muscles sometimes during the day and keep you down to earth. Anyway, we DO have our own road crew, we have a staff of 4 people and of course everybody is helping out with loading. After the show we mostly don’t carry the stuff ourselves since there’s not enough time, but if we’re done with showers and meet & greets of course we don’t stand there with our arms crossed watching the boys carry it all themselves when the club has closed, we’re a team and everybody has to do what they can, whenever they can.

Autona: What kind of girls do you absolutely dislike?

Mia: There’s not any specific kind of girls I don’t like. I would rather say I don’t like people who are greedy, and looking down on other people for example. It hasn’t anything to do with gender.
